Attention disorders are frequent causes of school failure. According to Tomatis, difficulties in sustained attention result from reduced brain activation. Children and adults experiencing difficulty with sustaining attention have difficulty concentrating for sufficiently long periods to complete a task and may compensate for this lack of activation through movement. When the parents see a hyperkinetic child, they mistakenly think that he or she has surplus energy, whereas the child has less. The Tomatis method provides this “energizing function” via auditory stimulation, so that the person can increase his brain activation in order to increase his attention span
